Resume tips
  • Concise & Simple – Graduate resumes should be no more than two pages and there is no need to attach your academic transcript, reference letters or awards unless otherwise specified. However, it does not hurt to bring a portfolio of your achievements to the interview.
  • Be Honest –Do no exaggerate on employment dates or duties this will come out in the wash once a reference check is completed
  • Show-Off - The whole point of this official document is for you to showcase your competitive advantage, achievements and strengths. Don’t just copy and paste your position description duties from the last position held, elaborate on your key achievements and the stuff that you are really proud of.
  • Cross your ‘T’s’ and Dot your ‘I’s’ - With spelling and grammatical checks on Word there is no excuse these days for mistakes. If you are an international student ask one of your native speaking friends to have a quick check.
  • Make Your Experience Count - Avoid using the chorological format within your resume when applying for positions that you have no recent experience for; instead change your resume into a functional resume allowing the recruiter to see the most relevant experience first.
  • Single, Married... Catholic? - Personal information like your status, religion, political views, age and race have no place on a resume and the recruiter does not need this to make an assessment on whether or not you have the capabilities to perform a job. This is also true for your appearance....save the model shot for your facebook page- there is no room on a resume for your pretty smile.
  • Use of Social Media- Consider what perceptions could be formed as a result of your pictures or statements on your Facebook or Twitter account. If an employer is seriously considering you for a job it’s only a couple of clicks away from finding out that you went ‘streaking’ in the CBD after a college initiation ceremony.
  • Get picky - Carefully select the positions which you are qualified to perform. Don’t apply for positions which you are not suitably qualified or do not possess most of the requirements indicated are too senior or positions which you have no experience in.
