Prof Brent Ritchie, Associate Dean (Research), welcomes BEL HDR students to a Semester 1 networking morning tea with representatives from the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC). Formed to serve the long-term investment responsibilities of the Queensland government, the QIC has grown into a leading long-term specialist manager in alternative investments.

Speakers Katrina King (General Manager, Research and Product Innovation) and Evan Kilpatrick (Vice President, Global Private Capital) from the Queensland Investment Corporation will provide a brief presentation about QIC and potential pathways for placements.

About the presenters

Katrina King - General Manager, Research and Product Innovation

Katrina has more than 25 years’ experience in financial services and is responsible for managing research and product innovation within QIC’s Global Clients and Marketing team.  Katrina works with our investment teams to drive our research and thought leadership program as well as developing product innovation across our capabilities. She has responsibility for the product team and oversees product development and governance.

Katrina previously held several roles in QIC’s Global Liquid Strategies team. Most recent as Head of Research and Strategy where she led a team responsible for the outlook on various credit, rates, inflation and currency markets.

Prior to joining QIC in 2006, Katrina worked for JPMorgan. She started in Australia and moved to JPMorgan in New York, Tokyo and London in various roles in product development, research, structured credit and syndication.

Katrina holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) and Bachelor of Law (Hons) from the University of Queensland.  She is currently completing her Masters of Business Administration at the University of Queensland.

Evan Kilpatrick - Vice President, Global Private Capital

Prior to QIC, Evan was the Head of Financial Sponsor Coverage (Australia) within Investment Banking and Capital Markets at Credit Suisse. Evan joined the firm in 2009 in Sydney, later transferring to New York with the firm where he covered Financial Sponsors in North America, before returning Australia to lead the Financial Sponsors business. During this time Evan advised private equity firms, hedge funds, corporates and family offices across a variety of industries in Australia, Asia, Europe and North America. Engagements with these clients included mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions (debt & equity raisings, restructurings and refinancing’s), and broader strategic/corporate advisory mandates.

Prior to Credit Suisse, Evan spent three years with Ernst & Young in the Transaction Advisory Services (Corporate Finance)division, where he was responsible for managing and executing a broad range of mergers and acquisitions, buy and sell-side due diligence and capital raisings, valuations and business modelling and project finance assignments.

Evan holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Majors in Accounting and Finance), University of Queensland. Chartered Accountant, Australia.
