Exceptional school-leavers awarded UQ scholarships

17 BEL students are among the outstanding school leavers to receive a UQ academic scholarship this year, including two prestigious UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships awarded to those who achieve at the very top of the OP1 band.

Sarah Bradford

Chancellor State College 2014 dux Sarah Bradford received a UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships and is studying a dual Bachelor of Business Management and Science after taking a gap year last year.

Sarah was a school ambassador and undertook charity work and community activities including leading a goalball tournament (a sport designed for the visually impaired)  between visually impaired and sighted students.  She also undertook community work in a Papua New Guinean village in 2012. 

“I really enjoy science and want to explore the possibility of a career in the academic world, possibly as a research physicist or mathematician,” she said.  “While business management opens up further career options.”

The other BEL UQ Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships recipient was Brisbane Girls Grammar School 2015 dux Josephine Auer who is among the inaugural student intake of the elite Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (Honours).

Jo and Sarah both receive $12,000 a year for up to five years for undergraduate and post graduate study.

Ten BEL students were awarded UQ Excellence Scholarships having obtained OP1 or equivalent and demonstrated outstanding academic, leadership or community service achievements during their senior school years:

  • Tang Han – Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics (Hons)
  • Manning Clifford – Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • James Francis - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Laura Heit - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Georgie Juszczyk - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Linden Peacock - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Georgina Quayle - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • James Aldridge – Bachelor Commerce/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Michael Boyce - Bachelor Commerce/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Jack Donnelly – Bachelor Economics/ Bachelor of Laws (Hons)

These students receive $6000 a year for up to four years for undergraduate and postgraduate study.

Six BEL students received UQ Merit Scholarships having achieved an OP 1-3 and demonstrating significant academic, leadership or community service:

  • Matthew Forbes - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Ayanna Pocock - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Tulli Seton - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Emilly Stopps - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Evangeline Woods - - Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws (Hons)

These students receive $6000 for their first year of study.
