BEL alumni and associates honoured

UQ Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (BEL) alumni and affiliates featured in the 2016 Queen’s Birthday Honours List include:

Honorary doctorate recipient  Dr Vincent William Fitzgerald (Bachelor of Economics, Honours, '69, Doctor of Economics Honoris Causa '15) was made an Officer (AO) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to business through executive and advisory roles in economic policy development, public administration and financial management organisations, and to the community.

Charles WellerColonel Charles Peter Weller (Bachelor of Economics '89) was honoured as Bar to the Conspicuous Service Cross for outstanding achievement as the Commander, Australian Contingent and Senior Military Liaison Officer – Jonglei State, Operation ASLAN, United Nations Mission in South Sudan from Nov 2014 to July 2015.

Michael ByrneMr Michael Joseph Byrne  (Bachelor of Commerce, '75) was honoured as a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to Catholic education as an administrator, to policy development and reform, and to professional standards.  

Dr Stewart Gill, BEL philanthropist, Dean’s Society member and Principal of Emmanuel College, was awarded a Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division for service to tertiary education, and to the community.

The Honourable Ian Vitaly GZELL QC (Bachelor of Arts '64, Bachelor of Laws '65, Bachelor of Commerce '74) was made a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia for significant service to the judiciary, to estate and trust law, to the advancement of professional development, and to the performing arts.
