School of Economics to welcome new leader

The University of Queensland has appointed Professor Daniel Zizzo as the new Head of School and Academic Dean for UQ’s School of Economics.  

Professor Zizzo will join the School in October from Newcastle University in the UK, where he currently holds the positions of Dean of Research and Innovation within the University’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Professor of Economics within the University’s Business School.

As an experimental and behavioural economist, Professor Zizzo will bring an inclusive and interdisciplinary approach to all areas of his work, and is committed to research-led teaching, empowering student success, and pushing the boundaries of mainstream economics to improve excellence and impact.

Previously, Professor Zizzo held senior and executive roles at the University of East Anglia, including Head of the School of Economics for six years, as well as research and teaching roles at the University of Oxford.

Professor Zizzo is a Fellow of the Economic and Social Research Council Peer Review College, a coordinating editor of Theory and Decision, and Secretary of the Royal Economic Society’s Conference of Heads of University Departments of Economics.

He is also a Research Associate within the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis at the Australian National University and has been an Australian Research Council grants assessor.

In addition to his research advocacy, Professor Zizzo’s work has been widely cited and funded, and he ranks within the top 0.75% of authors for downloads on the Social Sciences Research Network (SSRN).

He was appointed to the role following an extensive and competitive global search.
