Outstanding BEL Alumni

This year, five BEL Faculty Graduates will receive The University of Queensland’s 2014 Alumni Awards.

The recipients were selected by a committee led by UQ Vice Chancellor and President Professor Peter Høj.

Ms Julieanne Alroe: Bachelor of Economics ‘75

Ms Alroe is the CEO and Managing Director of the Brisbane Airport Corporation, and has held her position there since 2009. She has over 30 years in the aviation industry, and is one of the only women in the world to run a privatised airport.

Mr Matthew McLennan: Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) ‘91

Mr McLennan is the Head of Global Value for First Eagle Investment Management in New York. He is considered one of the most influential investors in the world, managing a portfolio worth over $93 billion in assets.

Dr Warren HogarthBachelor of Engineering '02; Bachelor of Commerce '04; PhD in Chemical Engineering ‘06

Dr Hogarth is a Venture Capitalist and Partner at Sequoia Capital, a leading venture capital firm in Silicon Valley.  He has worked across a diverse number of sectors and he helps emerging companies address the global issues affecting people’s lives.

Ms Luisa RyanBachelor of Arts ‘02; Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) '03; Graduate Certificate of Applied Law '11

Ms Ryan works as a Best Practices Officer for the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Her goal is to find new pathways and solutions to ongoing conflict and peacekeeping issues. Her current role requires her to study missions in actions and share information to promote the best outcomes.

Professor Megan Davis: Bachelor of Arts '97; Bachelor of Laws ‘99

Prof. Davis is the recipient of the Indigenous Community Impact Award. Her work is recognised as an outstanding contribution to Australian Indigenous communities. She is a Professor of Law at UNSW, a Commissioner of the NSW Land and Environment Court and a United Nation expert member of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous peoples.
