Safer Internet Day - UQ experts available

Safer Internet Day University of Queensland experts are available to comment on various aspects of Safer Internet Day on February 5.

This year’s theme – “Together for a better internet” – encourages people to create a better internet by developing four critical skills: respect, responsibility, reasoning and resilience. Journalists can contact the experts below or search by topic or name at UQ Experts.

Dr Peter Clutterbuck: UQ Business School.

Expertise: internet security and IT networking protocols. He has investigated IT security auditing, and has held public and private sector positions in personnel, project and technology management and is an expert on spyware management and risk mitigation.

Dr Micheal Axelsen: UQ Business School

Expertise:  IT governance and internet safety. He has 15 years’ experience in Information Systems  consulting, including project evaluation, audit, management and governance. He has conducted research in the theory of technology dominance.

Phil Cole: Security Operations Centre, Information Technology Services.

Expertise:  cyber security industry, in particular monitoring against threats and attacks and responding to cyber security incidents (including assisting the Australian Red Cross Blood Service with its 2016 donor data breach).  He can comment on responses to cyber security incidents, threat intelligence and cyber security information sharing.

Mike Holm: Cyber Emergency Response Team – Australian (AusCERT)

AusCERT is a leading Cyber Emergency Response Team which operates within a worldwide network of information security experts to provide computer incident prevention, response and mitigation strategies. Dr Keith Harris: Honorary Senior Research Fellow, School of Psychology 

Expertise:  how people develop interpersonal relationships online. He contributed to the development of the Online Relationship Initiation Scale, and has researched how suicidal people use the internet for suicide-related purposes.
