Over 130 students from International Education Services (IES) UQ Foundation Year converged on UQ St Lucia earlier this month for a taste of business, commerce, tourism and economics.
The IES UQ Foundation Year program prepares international students from around the world for entry into undergraduate degrees at UQ.
Hosted by the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (BEL), the annual BEL/IES visit immerses Foundation Year students in university life and highlights the wide range of BEL programs and employment opportunities on offer.
This year, students heard from top academic staff in the business, commerce, tourism, and economics programs, as well as members of the award-winning BEL Student Employability Team. IES alumni were also on hand to discuss their BEL student experience.
According to Mr Brendon Lutwyche, BEL’s Senior Manager of International Services, the event’s success is a testament to the broad appeal of the Faculty’s programs.
“This year’s student turnout was our largest in history,” he said.
“We’re incredibly proud of the Faculty’s strong relationship with IES students and alumni – many of whom have gone on to excel in BEL programs, and beyond.
“The UQ Foundation Year offers international students a wonderful pathway to further their studies in a full degree at UQ, whether they are interested in a career in finance, economic policy, hotel management, or anything in between.
“With assistance from our dedicated BEL Student Employability Team, students graduate with the knowledge and skills to succeed in their dream roles.”
Recent BEL/IES alumni include Mr Ho Yeung Cheung (Ocean), who was recently named a 2017 Study Brisbane International Student Ambassador for Hong Kong.
