2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours for BEL Faculty community

A champion for professional sportswomen is among 14 members of the UQ Faculty of Business, Economics and Law community who received 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Associate Professor Sarah Jane Kelly

Associate Professor Sarah Jane Kelly is an award-winning teacher, researcher and consultant currently focused on sport, and provides mentorship to sports technology startup companies and to professional sportswomen.

The Associate Professor in Law and Marketing at UQ, and Deputy Chair of the Brisbane Lions AFL Football Club, has been recognised with a Medal in the General Division (OAM).

“It was such a lovely surprise – I feel very honoured and humbled to be in the company of Australians who do extraordinary things,” Dr Kelly said.

“I’m grateful for the recognition that this award gives for education and sports administration.

“I love doing research and teaching in both of these sectors because of the impact they can have on the community and people – they’re cross cultural and globally understood for their impact.”

Other honourees from the BEL Faculty community include Business School Adjunct Professor Harvey Lister, notable non-executive director and former Under Treasurer of the Queensland Treasury, Gerard Bradley AO, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, The Honourable Michael Grant AO.

BEL Faculty Executive Dean Professor Andrew Griffiths said the Queen’s Birthday Honours recognised Australians for their achievements and service.

“Congratulations to the 2021 honourees from the BEL Faculty community,” Professor Griffiths said.

“The recipients are beacons of positive change in diverse fields such as economic policy, law, community health, the not-for-profit sector and tertiary education, to name a few.”

“I applaud them for reaching career heights while also making a difference for members of their community.”
