We'd like to remind you that our UQ Business, Economics and Law CreateAthon is coming up on Saturday 22 June! Here's everything you need to know.
Arrivals
Registration opens from 8am at UQ Brisbane City, 293 Queen Street with early birds able to enjoy our onsite café, The Daily Co.
Between 8am-9am, we will be welcoming our 100+ participants, so please aim to arrive early and well ahead of our 9am start.
Getting to UQ Brisbane City
- Bus/Train: UQ Brisbane City is serviced by numerous bus services and a short walk from Brisbane's Central Station. For further information visit the TransLink website.
- Car: Paid parking is available at numerous car parks located within a short walk from the venue. We recommend booking online ahead of arrival to ensure you get the best deal (discounted weekend rates should apply).
- Bicycle: Find bike parking locations close by at the Brisbane City Council website. Unfortunately, there are no bicycle or storage facilities available at UQ Brisbane City.

We're jam-packing a lot of creative thinking into our CreateAthon.
You will partner with other entrepreneurial thinkers, including staff, alumni and industry representatives, to design a new undergraduate course that aims to tackle the big or wicked problems of today. To help facilitate opportunities to ideate, define and prototype, our workshop leaders will use a proven educational framework called Vision Backcasting, designed by Kaospilot.
This is a brief outline of what your day will look like:
9:00am: Welcome
10:00am: Morning tea (will be provided)
10:30am: Session one
12:00pm: Lunch (will be provided)
1:00pm: Session two
2:00pm: Afternoon tea (will be provided)
3:15pm: Session three
4:30pm: Debrief
5:00pm: Drinks and networking (will be provided)
The big or wicked problems you'll discuss on the day are multi-faceted, complex, systematic and exceptionally difficult to solve. They're the kind of problems that cut across traditional boundaries and require cross-disciplinary investigation - think climate change, food and water security, and social justice.
Dress Code
As part of our philosophy of leaving titles at the door, every participant will be asked to wear a t-shirt provided by our team for the duration of the day. There will be changing rooms available at the venue. We recommend wearing a simple base layer (smart casual) so you can pop your t-shirt over to avoid change room delays.
What else do I need to bring?
Along with your brilliant ideas, please bring:
- A reusable water bottle as there will be refill stations available.
- A light jumper as the venue is air-conditioned.
Valuables and bulky items
Please leave bulky bags and valuables (such as laptops) at home to allow us to move up, down and around the building during the day and our various activities.
