David joined Pacific Equity Partners at the start of 2004. Prior to joining PEP, he spent his analyst years in the Investment Banking Division of JP Morgan. David received a PLD from Harvard Business School and dual first class honours degrees from the University of Queensland where he was awarded a University Medal.

David currently sits on the Boards of Manuka Health and Academic Colleges Group and is a former Director of Peters Ice Cream.

His area of specialty is investments.

Julianne Miao

Julianne has over 10 years’ experience in corporate finance, primarily in finance and property across Australia and Asia. She joined AMP in 2012 and was instrumental in AMP’s acquisition of a 20% equity interest in China Life Pension Company, a subsidiary of China Life, the world’s largest life insurer. Prior to joining AMP, Julianna held various positions at Aveo (formerly FKP Property Group), which saw her work on a number of M&A and capital raising transactions. Before moving to the property sector, she was an analyst at NAB.

Julianne’s area of speciality is mergers and acquisitions in wealth management. Her career highlight was securing AMP’s investment in China Life Pension Company which took over two years of negotiations.

Her advice to new graduates is ‘take a gap year and see the world, you will gain invaluable experience which will come in handy in your future role’. Her favourite UQ professor was Len Coote and she is interested in involvement with not-for-profit organisations, specifically ‘meatfreeweek’.

Cameron Brownjohn

Cameron is a career investment banker and is currently Head of Macquarie Capital's Principal Investments division for Australasia.

His experience spans investments and advisory assignments across financial institutions, telecoms, media, industrial, resources, real estate and infrastructure companies in Asia-Pacific, North America and Europe since 1999.

Prior to joining the corporate world, Cameron was competitive at a state and national level across a range of sports.

In addition to various Macquarie Group portfolio company board commitments, Cameron also serves on the Board of Special Olympics Australia.

Cameron’s advice to new graduates is to listen to and learn from as many people as possible.

His hobbies including travelling.

Karen Chester

Prior to her appointment, Karen was a Partner in Mercer's Investments business and  Global Head of Infrastructure. Before joining Mercer, Karen was a Partner at Access Capital Advisers and held directorships on several Australian infrastructure company boards. Prior to Access Capital Advisers, Karen was the CEO of its predecessor, Access Economics.

Before her move to the private sector, Karen held senior roles in key economic policy areas of the Commonwealth Treasury and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Karen has a first class honours degree in economics from the University of Queensland and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Karen is currently working on the Natural Disaster Funding public inquiry.

Daryl Dixon

He has provided trusted advice to thousands of personal clients over more than 25 years and is an acknowledged expert in the areas of tax, superannuation (including public sector superannuation), social security and investments. He has been a successful investor for more than 40 years and consults on personal and business finance strategies.

Emily Dransfield

Accounting & Finance Graduate, AMP

In Emily’s first year of university she started a cadetship in a chartered accounting business advisory firm, and worked there for five years in total. One year after graduating she decided she wanted to move out of tax and try a graduate program where she would have the opportunity to work in different areas of the business and gain a broader perspective of career opportunities.

Emily’s career highlight so far is managing the self-managed super fund division at her previous employer. She worked directly under the managing partner and was provided with a level of autonomy that she relished. She specialises in this area but is now undertaking a two year graduate program with AMP.

Her favourite professor was Alan Duhs and she fondly remembers her time on the UQ Business Association executive committee. She advises new graduates to not be afraid of asking questions as it demonstrates you are processing and challenging the information you are taught, as well as showing that you are curious.

In her spare time Emily enjoys snowboarding, netball, tennis and historical fiction.

Dr Don Hamson

Don Hamson ​Managing Director, Plato Investment Management

Don has 17 years investment management experience most recently as Head of Active Equities, Asia Pacific and a member of the global Senior Management Group at State Street Global Advisors.

Whilst at State Street Don was responsible for leading a team of portfolio managers running long and long/short active and enhanced Australian equity portfolios and successfully launching the first 130/30 long short strategy within State Street. As Chief Investment Officer at Westpac Investment Management he was instrumentally involved in the mergers of BT and Rothschild with Westpac's financial services division to form the new BT Financial Group. He held a number of other senior investment roles with BT and was also a member of their Investment Committee.

He started his career with Arthur Andersen before becoming a Lecturer in Finance at University of Queensland and subsequently a senior analyst and member of the Investment Committee at Queensland Investment Corporation.

Anthony Kerwick

Anthony joined Pacific Equity Partners in 1999 and was a Managing Director from 2004 until 2014. Anthony currently serves on the board of Griffin's Foods, Veda, Peters Ice Cream and Spotless. Prior to joining PEP, Anthony was a consultant at Bain and Company in the United States and Australia, where he advised clients in the financial services, telecommunications, airline, health care, retail, utilities and manufacturing industries on issues relating to strategy, mergers, acquisitions, operations improvement, industrial relations and e-commerce.

Ian Macoun

Ian Macoun, CFA serves as a Managing Director and Chairman at Pinnacle Investment Management Limited. Ian joined Pinnacle Investment Management Limited in 2007 as Chairman and Managing Director. He is also the Co-Founder and Chairman of Plato Investment Management Limited, which he co-founded in September 2006.

Mr. Macoun serves as Chairman of Solaris Investment Management Limited and the Non Executive Chairman of Investment Committee at Palisade Investment Partners Limited. Mr. Macoun serves as Director at Hyperion Asset Management. He serves as a Director of Resolution Capital Limited.

Prior to this, he was a Managing Director and Director at International Wine Investments. Founding Chief Executive Officer at Perennial Investment Partners Limited and its Managing Director until August 29, 2003. He served as Managing Director, Chief Investment Officer and Chief Executive Officer at Westpac RE Limited (Westpac Investment Management). Since 1991, he served as the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer at QIC Limited (Queensland Investment Corporation).

He began his career at Queensland Treasury in 1970. He served as Director at Perennial Investment Partners Limited and Westpac RE Limited. He was a member of the Public Trust Office Investment Board (Queensland) and Chairman of Nickel Resources North Queensland. Mr. Macoun served as a Director of Queensland Treasury Corp., Kern Corporation, and Sucrotech (Pty) Ltd.

He is a Fellow of both the Australian Society of CPAs and the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder.

Simon Moore

Simon is a Managing Director focused on Australasian buyout opportunities. He is based in  Sydney, Australia.

Prior to joining Carlyle, Simon was a Managing Director and Investment Committee Member of Investcorp International, Inc. based in New York. While at Investcorp International, he was a Director of CSK Auto, Inc., Aero Products International, Inc., MW Manufacturers, Inc. and Associated Materials Holdings. Prior to that, he worked in private equity investments and investment banking at J.P. Morgan & Co. in New York, Hong Kong and Melbourne.

Diane Rutter

Diane is a Director in the Customer Team as part of PwC’s Consulting practice in Sydney. Her background is in customer research, analytics, customer strategy and experience design. She specialises in advising large clients on improving the customer experience from strategy through to execution using voice-of-customer insights to drive service delivery improvements. Diane has worked extensively across the government sector, primarily within Transport, Emergency Services, Health and Welfare Services across both State and Federal government. She is a thought leader around customer centred policy and strategy in Government, having contributed to several societal focus areas for Government. Prior to starting at PwC she studied a Bachelor of Business Management at UQ achieving 1st Class Honours and studied a Bachelor of Business Science at the University of Cape Town prior to immigrating to Australia.

Her career highlight is being selected to represent the Australian firm at Genesis Park 2015 – PwC’s Global Leadership Programme. Diane was one of 120 participants selected from across the globe and spent 3 months living overseas in China and Netherlands as part of the leadership immersion programme. As part of this programme, Diane led a strategic project with the PwC Global Executive Leadership Team to understand investment opportunities in emerging markets.

Diane specialises in: customer and channel strategy development, service delivery model and experience design, customer centred policy design, and customer insights and analytics (including segmentation and value proposition design). Her industry focus is government (both State and Federal) in mainly transport, health, emergency Services and welfare Services.

She advises new graduates to have confidence in your abilities to be able to focus on your goals, follow your passion, be an authentic leader, learn from your failures, be grateful for every opportunity to learn from others, be resilient and adaptable to changes around you. 

Diane’s favourite professor at UW was Associate Professor Dr Len Coote, her previous Honours mentor.  ‘He inspired me to be at my best, to push the boundaries and continuously learn and grow (even during the stress of my Honours thesis!), to explore the world of management consulting and to continue to bridge thinking between academia and consulting. We now work together on consulting projects while Len keeps me abreast of the latest academic research on all things customer related. An inspiring individual, whose guidance and support has played a huge part in who I am today.’

Diane’s interests include music, particularly guitar and piano, travel and languages. She is currently learning French.

Tom Story

Tom has practised as a corporate and M&A lawyer for over 15 years at Allens Linklaters in  Sydney and Brisbane. He advises clients on significant M&A transactions across a range of sectors, including private equity, infrastructure, real estate and financial services.

Tom has been recognised as a market leading practitioner in recent publications including Chambers Asia-Pacific 2015 GuideBest Lawyers 2014 and Who's Who Legal 100 2015.  He maintains his links with Queensland through regularly advising Brisbane-based clients such as QIC Global Infrastructure, ERM Power and the Port of Brisbane.

Melanie Wilson

Melanie has more than 12 years’ international retail experience in senior management roles. Her appointments included Limited Brands (Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Bodyworks – New York), Starwood Hotels (New York), Woolworths and Diva/Lovisa and have covered a wide spectrum of retail including store operations, merchandise systems, online-e-commerce, marketing, brand development and logistics/fulfilment. In her most recent position, Melanie was Head of Online at BIG W.

Prior to her retail experience, Melanie performed roles at Bain and Company (Boston) and Goldman Sachs (Hong Kong and Sydney).

Melanie has an MBA from the Harvard Business School and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

She is currently a non-executive director of Baby Bunting, iSelect Limited (appointed in April 2016) and Shaver Shop Group Limited (appointed in June 2016).
