Vannessa Gu

Chair, Shanghai Alumni Ambassador Council
Insurance Consultant, AIA

UQ qualifications: Master of Commerce 2007

Vanessa is currently an Insurance Consultant at AIA, and was previously the Assistant Vice President Portfolio Sales, HSBC Payment and Cash Management at HSBC China.

Vanessa graduated from The University of Queensland in 2007 with a Masters of Commerce. She fondly remembers relaxing on the grass of the Great Court between lectures and studying, socialising and sharing views of work, life and personal values with her classmates. Many hours were also spent in the library preparing for exams.

Some of Vanessa’s interests include travelling and reading, which has enriched her life and broadened her view of the world. She also enjoys jogging and recently took up golf to improve her work-life balance and expand her social network.


Emerson Guan

Business Analyst, Ping An Insurance Group

Emerson is currently a Business Analyst at Ping An Insurance Group. His role includes data analysis for sales, financial and marketing indicators; business strategy analysis; and acting as a business strategy supervisor for branches. He was proud to be recognised as an outstanding employee for the last two years.
 
Emerson’s areas of specialty include data and strategy analysis, and specialised knowledge of the insurance industry.
 
His advice to new graduates is to take advantage of internship opportunities and to expand their professional and social networks.
 
In his free time, Emerson enjoys jogging and travelling.


Hazel Wang

Product Manager, Himalaya
UQ qualifications: Master of Business 2011

Hazel has more than ten years’ experience in marketing and account management in the automobile industry. She is currently a Product Manager at Himalaya.

Her areas of specialty include marketing, specifically digital and social media marketing, and event organisation including venue management and event branding.

A career highlight for Hazel was receiving a staff excellence award from Fujian Daimler in 2009.

While at UQ, her favourite professor was Raymond Zammuto (Principles of Strategic Management). Hazel's advice to new graduates is to be optimistic and persistent.

Outside of work, she enjoys creating flower arrangements and Chinese calligraphy.
